At first I was going to give this one three stars, but then I realized that I'd been laughing aloud throughout the entire book. Even if I have some quibbles, those have to be overridden by legitimate lols.

I think Pratchett is finally starting to grow on me. Or maybe his writing is getting legitimately better. There were parts of Wyrd Sisters I wasn't too fond of. Some of the bits with the play business just didn't settle right with me (a touch hard to explain) but most of the jokes seemed to hit harder and leave me smiling a lot longer.

The plot also seemed to be a lot more cohesive, although a bit predictable. (At least for me. I can never tell if a plot is predictable to me, or if it's predictable to everyone. I'm not sure if I can blame my mother for this one or just having read a lot of books.) But even though I could see the ending pretty clearly, I was happy to go along with the ride, especially with all the humor tossed in.

In retrospect, I can see that the whole "having a plot" thing is far superior than "randomness as a vehicle for lols." I'm definitely hoping that the next thirty something books follow this tradition rather than the Rincewind tradition.

  1. If you read through all of Discworld, you're in for a few more Rincewind books but they are thankfully relatively few and far-between.
